Build quality and Design of Nikon 35mm 1.8G DX lens

Nikon 35mm 1.8G DX lens

The built quality of Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX is pretty fine. It’s very light weighted and handy. But if you compare it with Nikon 50 mm lens you’ll notice the body of Nikon 35mm feels a little cheap and the manual focus ring feels rough. Otherwise, the lens construction is good enough at this price range.

Auto Focus

photo of Nikon 35mm 1.8G DX lens

The Autofocus speed of this lens is fast and also snappy. Thanks to the AF-S silent wave motor (SWM), autofocus procedures are barely distinct. When it comes to autofocus accuracy, The  Nikon 35mm 1.8G DX lens is driven by Nikon’s AF-S in-lens focusing system instead of a typical in-body screw drive focus system.

The 35mm lens is indeed extremely peaceful, but autofocus speed in low light really did not appear particularly faster than what we’ve seen with older Nikkor lenses. Still, the Nikon 35mm 1.8G DX lens is quite rapid and also makes an exceptional lens in low light conditions where a typical lens simply can’t obtain a focus lock.

Image Quality

The Nikon 35mm 1.8G DX lens renders colors that are hue precise, brilliant, and well filled. It delivers images with great sharpness. The comparison was generally good but not as outstanding as what we’ve seen from other 35mm lenses. Below are few image samples.

Pros:

– Affordable prime lens for AF-S cameras.

–  Fast autofocus in daylight

– Excellent Sharpness.

Cons:

– Obvious barrel distortion.

– The body plastics feel a little cheap.

–  Autofocus in low light is little slow

Overall my experience of using this lens is very good. Yes, there are few cons but we can ignore that as this lens is great for someone who wants a prime lens at an affordable price.
